Humans of Ecosystem & Community stories

“Humans of Ecosystem” is a campaign to represent the human stories of the 80,000 professionals we’ve empowered and accompanied, and who have strengthened their abilities to be changemakers in their communities and local ecosystems. We value the contributions of all stakeholders, including farmers, waste pickers, healthcare professionals, experts, business professionals, local activists, and people in the broader community, who have come together to invest their time and energy to solve local challenges, and to build a more inclusive economy.

H’lib Bladi – Human story of Aïcha and Jaouad

H’lib Bladi aims to expand and strengthen sustainable milk production in Morocco by supporting smallholder farmers and milk collection centers, while helping farmers improve their financial stability.

Through this virtual farm visit, discover how the first phase of the H’lib Bladi project — co-created with GIZ Morocco and Centrale Danone — has transformed the lives of smallholder dairy farmers by helping to better structure the dairy distribution system.

This comprehensive support ultimately helps secure farmers’ livelihoods and provides them with opportunities to grow their activities.

“I have been a farmer since my childhood. Agriculture is my whole life, and more specifically dairy cows. Aïcha joined me in this adventure. We decided to raise our family here and run this farm together. Before, there was so much we didn’t know. How to manage the milk, the dairy cows, how to feed them? But my life and work changed in 2016, when the H’lib Bladi project was created, and offered us training and mentoring in cooperatives. Our farm wasn’t on the right track, but they knew how to guide us.”

“Thanks to the project, the way I work has improved significantly. Before, I couldn’t wash the cows, and I milked them by hand. We kept the cows all together in the same space and mixed them in with the bulls. We were doing things in a random way. Everything changed, we are not in a difficult situation anymore. All thanks to the H’lib Bladi project.”

SAMAS – Human story of Ana, Mirela, Elena & Denisia

Ana has long been an advocate for women’s and children’s rights, especially breastfeeding. In 2013, we partnered with her foundation, White Cross, along with healthcare professionals and other key organizations, to launch SAMAS. The goal was to increase both the percentage of women who breastfeed and the overall duration of breastfeeding, while also promoting exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months.

Ten years later, SAMAS continues to make an impact. Mothers like Elena, who breastfed exclusively for seven months, and dedicated health professionals like Mirella, are proof of its success.

This change is driven by a coalition of partners: Asociația SAMAS, Nutricia-Danone, White Cross, Red Cross Sector 6, IOMC, and the Ministry of Health.

“I’ve been a mom for a year. I turned to the professionals at the SAMAS Association two weeks after giving birth. A Perinatal Educator came to our home; she provided me with invaluable assistance. I felt like I had a friend by my side, and I was able to openly discuss my concerns with her. I believe that the SAMAS Association supports mothers and instills confidence that someone is there to assist them whenever needed. For me, breastfeeding is something magical, and I feel that for my little one, it’s something that binds us very strongly.”

Rejoso Kita - Human story of Sukono, Ngationo, and Taufik

In 2016, Danone Ecosystem, together with key partners and Danone Waters of Indonesia, joined forces to safeguard the endangered Rejoso watershed — a vital water source for 1.6 million people.

We believe the success of this initiative lies in three key pillars: a collaborative approach, capability building, and financial incentives.

Watch the video and embark on an inspiring journey with SukonoNgationo, and Taufi as they share their experiences and insights, and learn more about the program and its impact on the Rejoso Kita program!

“Regarding the support we receive from Rejoso Kita, there was compensation for creating filtration sources, making trenches and planting 5000 trees. It’s had a positive impact. For example, durian trees used to be thin, but now they are flourishing. All of this has been helpful for the economic well-being of the farming community in Galih Village.”

Best Frailty Care (TOM) – Human story of Ans

Come with us to the Netherlands to meet Ans! A healthy and energetic 91 year-old who lives independently at home.

Watch the video to discover how the Best Frailty Care (TOM) program empowered Ans and 800 seniors like her.

Together with Nutricia, Danone and other local actors, we co-created this program to bring older people together for four months to learn about healthy diets and for exercise classes designed to prevent and reduce the risk of falls with the goal of fostering a healthier and autonomous lifestyle!

“I read an article about the Best Frailty Care (TOM) program in a local newspaper. I quickly registered for it, and I was happy to join. The group of seniors I joined was very nice to each other. Thanks to the program I learned how to better keep my balance, and I also changed a few things in my diet. I am making sure I eat enough protein a day. The program was a lot of fun! It made me a little bit more confident and I’m still reaping the benefits. I am happy to be independent.”

Margarita - Human story of Jaime Cortés

In 2010, Danone Ecosystem partnered with TechnoServe, NUUP, Mondelēz, Danone de Mexico, and the Government of Mexico to co-create the Margarita project, aimed at improving milk production.

The initiative supports sustainable businesses, rural development, and better living conditions for small producers, while securing regional milk supply.
Farm technicians are trained at UNAM, Mexico’s top university, and a network of smallholder farmers has been built in collaboration with the Union of Cattle Farmers. This model improves access to credit, training, technical support, innovation, and shared resources.

Watch the video to see how Margarita has transformed the lives of dairy farmers like Jaime in Mexico!

Margarita connected us with many people who helped us with everything. We have learned a lot. We improved technically, administratively and our quality of life. Our business is doing well now. Today I can say that Margarita saved our life in milk production.
