Agriculture covers nearly 60% of the Volvic catchment area, playing a crucial role in protecting the region’s water resources. Farmland (especially grasslands) naturally supports water infiltration, helping replenish the aquifer that supplies Volvic water.
However, certain agricultural practices, such as the use of chemical pesticides, excessive fertilization, or leaving soils uncovered, can threaten the quality and sustainability of this vital water resource.
The project based on the development and management of a 4,000 m² garden located within the Volvic catchment area, where heritage and endemic plant and tree varieties from the Auvergne region are cultivated. Using regenerative and organic agriculture practices, the garden also produces unique and underutilized crops such as oyster plants and wild garlic, contributing to biodiversity preservation.
Designed as an open and educational space, the garden welcomes the general public through guided visits that raise awareness of regenerative agriculture and biodiversity.
At the same time, the project supports the social and professional reintegration of individuals facing barriers to employment by engaging them in the creation and maintenance of the garden. Through this hands-on experience, participants develop essential professional skills , preparing them for future training or employment opportunities.
