In 2010, Danone Ecosystem partnered with TechnoServe, NUUP, Mondelēz, Danone de Mexico, and the Government of Mexico to co-create the Margarita project, aimed at improving milk production.
The initiative supports sustainable businesses, rural development, and better living conditions for small producers, while securing regional milk supply.
Farm technicians are trained at UNAM, Mexico’s top university, and a network of smallholder farmers has been built in collaboration with the Union of Cattle Farmers. This model improves access to credit, training, technical support, innovation, and shared resources.
