H’lib Bladi – The Stories of Jaouad & Aïcha

H’lib Bladi aims to expand and anchor sustainable milk production in Morocco

Through this virtual farm visit, discover how the first phase of the H’lib Bladi project co-created with GIZ Maroc and Centrale Danone has changed the lives of small dairy farmers in Morocco by:

(1) 👨‍🌾 Supporting farmers dairy activities More than 1,600 smallholder farmers have strengthen their milk production capacities, improved their business models, while reaching high environmental standards by optimizing cattle feed and using water more efficiently, and decreasing the carbon intensity of their milk.

(2) 🥛 Supporting the structuration of the dairy distribution system Renovating 30+ Milk Collection Centers and developing associated “service hubs” has been essential in the acceleration of the project and its success.

Overall, this comprehensive support helps secure farmers’ livelihoods and offers opportunities to develop their activities!

“I have been a farmer since my childhood. Agriculture is my whole life, and more specifically dairy cows. Aïcha joined me in this adventure. We decided to raise our family here and run this farm together. Before, there was so much we didn’t know. How to manage the milk, the dairy cows, how to feed them? But my life and work changed in 2016, when the H’lib Bladi project was created, and offered us training and mentoring in cooperatives. Our farm wasn’t on the right track, but they knew how to guide us.”

“Thanks to the project, the way I work has improved significantly. Before, I couldn’t wash the cows, and I milked them by hand. We kept the cows all together in the same space and mixed them in with the bulls. We were doing things in a random way. Everything changed, we are not in a difficult situation anymore. All thanks to the H’lib Bladi project.”
