In many countries, ageing populations are creating a growing range of health and societal challenges. In Ireland, 23% of the population is expected to be over the age of 65 by 2036.
This demographic shift is associated with increased risks of dependency, mental health issues, and physical disability, placing a significant burden on society. In this context, care professionals play a crucial role in helping to delay the loss of autonomy among elderly people.
In 2011, Danone Ecosystem Fund with the support of Siel Bleu Association, and Nutricia Ireland launched the Ageing Well project. It combined individual nutritional advice and physical training to improve elderly people’s health and wellbeing.
This program was provided to retirement home residents at a very affordable price by physical educators recruited and trained by Siel Bleu Association.
The project replicated the learnings of the French model “Bien Vieillir.”
