Dairy farmers in Normandy increasingly face climate challenges and difficult living conditions. 100% of them are struggling to change their farming practices.
The Reine Mathilde program aims to promote conversion to organic dairy farming in Normandy by helping farmers optimize their farming systems, explore innovative organic practices (through satellite farms), and discover well-balanced production models. Additionally, it provides support for those considering a transition to organic farming. The project looks beyond the field and also assesses the universal basic needs of farmers.
Currently in its fourth iteration, the Reine Mathilde program has established itself as a well-known and recognized initiative in Normandy, with growing national influence. It continues to expand its network of demonstration farms and supports organic dairy production by providing farmers with benchmarks on new livestock and crop management techniques, and inspires more producers to transition to organic farming. The program is strengthening its research, demonstration, and support system in three key areas:
1. Technical trials for greater resilience to climate challenges → Development of technical benchmarks on two showcase farms.
2. Demonstration of innovative practices on satellite farms → Sharing best practices across a variety of farming systems.
3. Shaping the future of organic farming → Assessing the social impact of the organic dairy sector and supporting farmers in transitioning to organic production.
